FCO. JAVIER GUTIÉRREZ JUAN
(Conductor)
Born in Guillena, but currently
living in Villanueva del Ariscal, near Seville (Spain), Francisco Javier
Gutiérrez Juan is one of the leading international Spanish conductors. He
stands out on account of his versatility as a conductor of important orchestras
and professional symphonic orchestras and bands in Europe and America, and is
known for tackling all types of genres, ranging from opera to jazz, without
forgetting the great symphonic classics, operetta, flamenco, copla (Spanish
folk songs), pop, studio recordings, radio and television work, premieres,
among other work. This versatility is based on a solid musical background based
in Seville and Madrid and completed with numerous international perfection courses
both home and abroad with leading masters, and having achieved a brilliant
academic curriculum with distinction awards, special mention at elemental
grade, and special awards both at the middle and end of his degree. Javier has
the following titles: conducting professor; professor of harmony, musical
counterpoint, composition and instrumentation; oboe professor, musical theory
professor, sight reading and transport among others.
With regard to music, he has carried
out important historical recoveries of lost or altered works and has published
the treaty “The March form” edited by ABEC. He makes documentaries and
collaborates closely with articles in the mass media like Telesevilla, Giralda
TV, El Correo TV, Ondaluz, Canal Sur Radio, Correo de Andalucía, Diario de
Sevilla and ABC among others.
Currently he is the chief Director
of the Municipal Symphonic Band of Seville; he conducts orchestras and
symphonic bands as well as giving conferences and classes in universities all
over Spain, the United States, Portugal, Costa Rica, Argentina, Colombia and
Venezuela; in addition he participates in international congresses and forms
part of juries in international competitions. He is the artistic director of
the National Band Congress of Processional Music (Ciudad de Sevilla) and
president of the music section of the Arts and Science Association of Seville.
He has received numerous awards and prizes both in Europe and America. He
has performed in important concert halls abroad like the Teatro Nacional de
Costa Rica, Teatro Maestranza and Teatro Lope de Vega in Seville, Teatro Ford
(Berry, Georgia, USA), Teatro de las Artes (Maracaibo, Venezuela), Teatro
Mélico Salazar de Costa Rica, Teatro el Globo (Buenos Aires, Argentina),
Auditorio de la URU (Maracaibo, Venezuela), Auditori de Barcelona, Auditorio de
Galicia (Spain), Ópera de la Coruña (Spain), Teatro Isabel la Católica in
Granada (Spain), Teatro Apolo in Almería (Spain), Teatro de la Patria (Bogotá,
Colombia), the Spanish Cathedrals of Málaga and Sevilla, the Cathedral of of
Alajuela (Costa Rica), the Auditoriums of Castellón and Albacete (Spain),
Templo Colonial de Nicoya (Costa Rica), the FIBES Auditorium in Seville, Gran
Teatro in Córdoba (Spain), Teatro de las Cortes (San Fernando, Spain), Auditorio Miguel Delibes (Valladolid, Spain), and so
on.
Among others he has
conducted the Royal Symphonic Orchestra in Seville, the Royal Guard
Symphonic Band in Spain (Madrid), the Symphonic Orchestra of Maracaibo
(Venezuela), Berry College Symphony Wind Ensemble (Georgia, United States), the
Orchestra of Córdoba, the National Concert Band of San José in Costa Rica, Symphonic Orchestra of Castilla León (Spain), the Symphonic Band of the Colombian
National Army (Bogotá, Colombia), the Philarmonic Orchestra of Andalucía, Camerata Silva Dionisio Púrpura (Lisbon,
Portugal), the Philarmonic Bética Orchestra in Seville, BSNC (Argentina), the
Official Concert Band Simón Bolivar (Venezuela), the Manuel Castillo Chamber
Orchestra (Seville), the Pacific Concert Band (Costa Rica), the Chamber
Orchestra of Spanish Radio and Television (Madrid), the National Band of

Seville among others. In these concerts he has had the opportunity to conduct
singers and soloists who are leading
figures on the international scene, covering all different genres.
As an oboe soloist he has performed
and been accompanied by different types of groups and orchestras. He has taken
part on many occasions in different studio recordings and also for both radio
and television. He has been a member of several orchestras and professional
bands.
Socially committed, Javier has made
a large number of performances and recordings and has appeared on television in
support of Associations of Downs Syndrome, Autism, Cáritas, and the Blind
People’s Association in Argentina, among others.
